The Kerala Sociological Society (KSS) was formed in 1971.

It is a professional body of sociologists in Kerala, established to promote teaching and research in Sociology and to raise the status of the profession in the State and the country with membership from the rest of India as well as abroad.

The credit for its inception goes to Dr. P.K.B. Nair, Rev. Dr. Jose Murickan SJ, and Rev. Dr. Joseph Puthenkalam S, the senior most Sociologists in Kerala. They were ably backed by Prof. Mariamma Joseph, Prof. John Kattakayam, Rev. Sr. Marie Cecile, Prof. C.J. Mathew, Rev. Sr. Samuel.
